Michael Filsell and Catherine McGovern have joined the Bene Aged Care leadership team.

The South Australian provider has welcomed Mr Filsell in a newly created role – chief operating officer – where he will be responsible for leading Bene Aged Care’s operational functions.

He holds qualifications in healthcare physiotherapy, project management and executive management.

“Joining Bene Aged Care is a wonderful opportunity to support an organisation with a strong reputation for providing high standards of care that respect individuals’ cultural needs,” Mr Filsell told Australian Ageing Agenda.

“I’m committed to enhancing our operational capability and building on a culture where teams can thrive and deliver exceptional outcomes for the people we care for.”

Ms McGovern has been appointed manager of quality and clinical governance, which is another newly created executive position for the not-for-profit, culturally-responsive provider. Her role will include overseeing Bene Aged Care’s clinical governance portfolio.

Ms McGovern has expertise in clinical leadership, infection prevention and person-centred care, and is a registered nurse who has spent more than 30 years working in aged care. She also serves on the Australasian College of Infection Prevention board as a director.

“It’s a privilege to step into this role at Bene, where kindness, quality and compassion are central to everything we do. I look forward to advancing quality and clinical governance systems and helping ensure person-centred, evidence-informed care for every individual we support,” Ms McGovern told AAA.

Bene Aged Care chief executive officer Andrew McFarlane said they were pleased to welcome Mr Filsell and Ms McGovern into these critical leadership roles.

“Their combined experience, integrity, and vision will enhance our ability to deliver trusted, culturally sensitive aged care to our community. These appointments form part of Bene’s strategic focus on strengthening operational excellence across all service areas.”
