I used to be reminded this previous week that the Universe usually offers us what we want, not essentially what we would like… and I’m doing my finest to embrace that actuality after what occurred final Saturday.

It was my first full day in Tulum, Mexico.

I had traveled there to spend time with my expensive pal, Allison Melody (host of the Meals Heals podcast), with plans for per week filled with each work and play.

The play I used to be most trying ahead to? Coaching at a badass out of doors Muay Thai fitness center.👊

It’s been 8 months since I had ACL reconstruction surgical procedure, and I used to be heading into this journey feeling robust, cell, and able to—what they are saying in bodily remedy—“return to sport.”

I introduced all my gear… wraps, gloves, shin guards, mouthpiece… with the intention of coaching at Revolution Muay Thai each day.

I used to be additionally excited to dive into yoga (Tulum has no scarcity of beautiful studios), and to proceed my taiji apply within the magical out of doors areas there.

However the Universe had completely different plans.

I seen that the one class obtainable at Revolution that Saturday was a sparring class.

I debated.

This might be my first time sparring Muay Thai once more since surgical procedure.

Ideally, I’d ease again in with a skills-based class—bag work, mild accomplice drills. However I used to be so keen, so excited to be again in my aspect, that I made a decision to go for it.

Saturday morning, I arrived on the fitness center and was greeted with a heat welcome from Magnus, the proprietor and head coach, and a crew of extremely proficient fighters. After warming up, it was time to spar.

Fourth spherical. I used to be paired with a extremely expert girl—the one different feminine there.

I threw a kick with my proper leg. She caught it.

As I pulled away, my physique turned—and my standing knee (yep, the surgical one) twisted.

POP.💥

I hit the bottom, writhing in ache, yelling “Fck, fck, f*ck”—as a result of the second mirrored what occurred the primary time I tore my ACL sparring in Miami.
Solely this time I caught it on digital camera.

After the shock and ache subsided, I waited for the category to be over and Magnus graciously gave me a journey again to my Airbnb.

I in fact had waves of emotion the remainder of the day—conversations with myself, difficult ideas of remorse, doing my finest to not spiral into self-blame.

What’s wild is that within the mastermind I’m presently main for previous shoppers, our mindset theme of the month is “Constructive Considering” (I truly advisable the episode “Positive Thinking My Ass” from the Vegan Life Coach Podcast to them—it’s one 😉).

There’s such an interesting dance between poisonous positivity, the concept we create our actuality with our ideas and power, and the facility of merely permitting ourselves the complete human expertise—together with the so-called “detrimental” feelings.

(I’ve written about this matter lots on my blog if you wish to dive deeper.)

For me, what’s been most therapeutic in moments like that is embracing the mantra:

“The aim is to not really feel higher—it’s to get higher at feeling.”

And so, after some inner pep talks, chats with Fred, my mother, and trusted associates, and respiratory by disappointment, I made the decision to move again to Miami early and get an MRI.

I’m admittedly bracing for the worst (my instinct says my ACL is re-torn) whereas being open to the likelihood that it’s extra minor than that.

I’m additionally already exploring concepts about how I can benefit from this harm, like creating particular yoga, energy, and mobility lessons on-line for people who find themselves coping with knee accidents.

Extra updates to come back!

AND

I nonetheless was capable of have some enjoyable with Allison within the days following the incident. Listed below are some pics…

I’ll depart you with this…

Whether or not it’s an harm, a breakup, a setback in your well being journey, or a second that leaves you on the ground (actually or metaphorically), one of the vital empowering issues we will do is enable all of it to be there.

We reside in a world that usually tells us it needs to be both/or…

Both you’re robust, otherwise you’re struggling.
Both you’re grateful, otherwise you’re grieving.
Both you’re constructive, otherwise you’re pessimistic.

However the fact is—and that is one thing I come again to many times on my therapeutic journey—it’s not both/or. It’s each/and.

You may be deeply upset and profoundly grateful.
You may really feel disappointment and nonetheless embody peace.
You may grieve the setback and belief the method.
You may disintegrate and keep grounded in your value.

That is the paradox of being human. And it’s additionally the place the magic lives.

As Tara Brach says, “Radical acceptance is the willingness to expertise ourselves and our lives as it’s.” It’s not about fixing or escaping what we really feel. It’s about increasing our capability to carry all of it—with compassion, curiosity, and presence.

Ram Dass places it superbly too: “Struggling is a part of our coaching program for changing into smart.”

So when you’re navigating your personal model of a pop💥… I invite you to breathe into the AND.

Let your pleasure and ache coexist. Let your energy and softness dance collectively. Let your internal warrior cry and maintain displaying up with an open coronary heart.

And know this: I’m proper right here with you, doing the identical.

With fierce compassion and a complete lotta love,
Ella 💗

P.S. For those who’re not following me on Instagram, yow will discover extra pics and movies of my experiences there.
