A state senator in Michigan prompted laughter in the state house recently with this pithy response to a Republican colleague.

At a NATO summit last week, the military alliance’s Chief Mark Rutte compared President Tr*mp to a father figure who must intervene when countries, like children, fight each other.

“And then daddy sometimes has to use strong language and stop them,” said Rutte.

Tr*mp, unsurprisingly, loved it. He later told reporters of Rutte, “He likes me, I think he likes me; if he doesn’t, I’ll let you know. He did it very affectionately. Daddy, you’re my daddy.”

Tr*mp supporters and enablers have also jumped upon the term. Last week, during a session in the Michigan Senate, Republican Senator Jonathan Lindsey said Democrats should embrace Tr*mp as their “daddy”, given his father-figure status.

Lindsey attempted to troll his left-leaning colleagues for their frequent criticism of the President.

“Maybe in these resolutions going forward, we could have a little bit of recognition of like, Daddy Tr*mp, is who we’re going to oppose, or something like that. Get creative with it,” Lindsey suggested.

There followed a pause before gay, Democratic senator Jeremy Moss, the Senate’s speaker pro tem, jumped in and said, “You don’t want to know what daddy means in my community.”

The chamber erupted into laughter at Moss deflating Lindsey’s idea with some queer sass.

Moss shared a clip of the moment on X and wished everyone a “Happy Pride Month.”

You can also watch the moment from the 2:05:30 mark below.

Same-sex marriage

Moss, 39, appeared on Queerty back in February. Another Michigan lawmaker, Rep. Josh Schriver (R), introduced a resolution urging the US Supreme Court to overturn its 2015 decision making same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states.

Schriver held a so-called press conference to announce the move. However, after making his announcement, Schriver refused to take any questions from reporters about his resolution.

Moss, who attended the press conference and made sure to sit in the front row eyeballing Schriver, took the opportunity to jump up and offer to take questions instead. He proceeded to blast Schriver’s performative gesture.

Taking Schriver’s empty spot behind the podium, Moss said, “This is just as buffoonish as I expected it to be. I think this has fallen flat with people in the state of Michigan.

“These marriages have been the law of the land for ten years. They contribute to family security. They contribute to economic security for people here in the State of Michigan.

Moss represents Michigan’s District 7 (Southfield). In May, he announced his intention to run for Congress for Michigan’s 11th District when the seat comes up in 2026.

“Oakland County raised me and I’ve spent the last decade fighting for you in the Michigan Legislature.

“Now I’m ready to stand up for our communities — with a little bit of chutzpah — in Washington.”
