EXploring the experiences of Indonesian migrant domestic workers in caring for older adults in Asia

About the presentation
‘EXploring the experiences of Indonesian migrant domestic workers in caring for older adults in Asia’ (EXIMA Project) aims to comprehensively explore the experiences of Indonesian migrant domestic workers (IMDWs) in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan as informal caregivers of older adults. These experiences are explored with an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. In this sharing session, Andrian will share updates from the quantitative part of the study to explore the psychological and social conditions, self-efficacy in caring for older adults, dementia awareness and attitudes towards dementia among IMDWs caring for older adults. Furthermore, the conditions of the older adults will also be reported through observation of the IMDWs, including their health status, lifestyle, dementia symptoms and ability to perform daily activities.
About the presenter
Andrian Liem (pronouns he/they) is a Research Fellow at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences (Public Health Cluster), Monash University Malaysia, with research interests including clinical and health psychology, indigenous and cultural psychology, global health, migrants & refugees, gender & sexuality, and interfaith dialogue. He is originally from Indonesia and earned his PhD in psychology from the University of Queensland, Australia. Prior to joining MUM, he worked at the University of Macau in assisting in the development of a digital mental health app for Overseas Filipino Workers sponsored by the World Health Organization.
