Need a boost to get over Hump Day? The Hot Sheet is Queerty’s midweek pop culture catch-up, highlighting the entertainment stories everyone’s talking about, the ones you might’ve missed, and the notable LGBTQ+ film & TV releases in the days ahead. Here’s everything you need to stay in-the-know:

What To Watch This Week

Your dose of fabulosi-TEA

Subscribe to our newsletter for your front-row seat to all things entertainment with a sprinkle of everything else queer.

  • Misericordia — Now Available (VOD): From the director of Stranger By The Lake, a return to his hometown sends a man down a strange path of mortality & desire in this pitch-black comedy.
  • Spark — Now Available (VOD): In this dark, queer spin on the Groundhog Day formula, Aaron (Theo Germaine) has to relive the same day over and over after a fateful romantic connection.
  • The Male Gaze: Breaking Dawn — Now Available (VOD): The latest in this long-running anthology of gay short films from across the globe is all about revelations in the wee hours of the morning.
  • Things Like This — Now Available (VOD): Rising talent Max Talisman writes, directs, and stars in this winning queer rom-com about two guys with the same name who fall for each other.
  • Materialists — June 13 (Theaters): Celine Song (Past Lives) directs this three-way romance that probably isn’t all that gay… but it does star our favorite daddy Pedro Pascal!
  • Sex: The Oslo Trilogy — June 13 (Select Theaters): Norwegian director Dag Johan Haugerud’s adult comedy about two straight male friends questioning their genders & identities.
  • SHOUT!TV Double Take – Pride Month Edition — June 13 (Shout!TV): Culture writers & wives BJ & Harmony Colangelo host a musical queer double-feature with Starstruck and Hearts Beat Loud.
  • Fallen Fruit — June 14 (NYC Theaters): Filmmaker Chris Molina’s charming indie about heartbroken queer twenty-something’s humid summer spent in his hometown of Miami.

Culture Catch-Up

SEEN ON SCREEN?: GLAAD has unveiled its annual “Studio Responsibility Index,” monitoring LGBTQ+ inclusion in mainstream movies and, unfortunately, it’s a bit of a bummer. Across the board in 2024, queer representation was at a three-year low. Here’s hoping this year fares a bit better! [GLAAD]

SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT: Educating the straights is a full-time job, and thankfully Ts Madison takes no days off! The Outlaws podcast host & viral sensation was a guest on NeNe Leakes YouTube show, where she brilliantly corrected the former Housewife on men who sleep with trans women. [Queerty]

SPICE GIRL: Hacks scene-stealer Megan Stalter gets the star vehicle she’s always deserved in Too Much, the new Netflix comedy from Girls creator Lena Dunham. The series’ trailer gives us a taste of its fish-out-of-water humor, plus dreamy co-stars like The White Lotus‘s Will Sharpe & a cameo from Andrew Scott!

ALL SEWN UP: From the Werk Room to the Runway, Drag Race alum Utica Queen—a.k.a. Ethan Mundt—will be competing on the upcoming 21st season of Project Runway, featuring returning host Heidi Klum & judge Law Roach. After seeing what she can do with a sleeping bag, these designers better watch out! [INTO]

SPEAK ON IT: Queer rap superstar Doechii lit up the stage of the BET Awards with a fiery acceptance speech for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, calling out the cruelty of ICE’s anti-immigration raids in LA and more: “We all deserve to live in hope and not in fear.” Now that’s how you use your platform for good! [LGBTQNation]

LOUD & PROUD: This past weekend, the gays descended on D.C. for WorldPride, radically celebrating queer joy & community just down the street from you-know-who in the White House. Here’s your recap of the eventful weekend, featuring J.Lo, David Archuleta, plenty of drag royalty, and more. [GayCities]

FITSPO: While on the British dating show I Kissed A Boy, contestant Jordan Burrow shared he always felt sidelined in sports as a gay man. But now, after getting encouragement from his out footballer hero Jake Daniels, Burrows is becoming a personal trainer to help queer people feel comfortable in the gym. [OutSports]

SAMANTHA WHO?: Dubbed the “modern-day Sex And The City girls” best-friends Dylan Mulvaney, Miss Benny, and Josie Totah are taking New York City—and the entertainment industry—by storm, It Girls in the vein of Carrie Bradshaw who dazzle as beacons of resilience and trans sisterhood. [Cosmopolitan]

ALL GROWN UP: When Noah’s Arc first premiered on Logo 20 years ago, it was the story of four young, Black, queer friends living their best lives dating around WeHo. Now, in Noah’s Arc: The Movie, they’re all grown up, worrying about careers, impending fatherhood, and other adult things. Man, time flies!

THEATER QUEENS: Like the opening number of the Death Becomes Her musical, this year’s Tony Awards was truly “For The Gaze Gays.” We’ve got your recap of the night’s best & queerest moments, from host Cynthia Erivo‘s show-stopping musical numbers to Jonathan Groff straddling Keanu Reeves’ face. [Queerty]

SIBLING REVELRY: In conversation with his dear little sister Ariana Grande, Frankie Grande opens up about the power of pride, his upcoming debut album Hotel Rock Rottom, and how he got clean & sober after his run on Big Brother opened him up to a dispiriting rush of anti-LGBTQ+ hate. [Interview]

ICE PRINCESSES: In her latest drag queens-on-ice video, Denali welcomes the icon Nicole Paige Brooks (a.k.a. NPB F.A.G. the MVP of RPDR) to the rink, and it’s even more hilarious than you’d hope, especially with the divas in full I, Tonya drag (Fun fact: Did you know NPB was a background actor in that movie???)

The Final Hump

If you, like us, were obsessed with Oh, Mary! star Cole Escola‘s Tony-winning dress—a loving nod to what Bernadette Peters wore when she won the Tony in 1999—then you’ll love this blast from the past. Years back, when Broadway was just a glimmer in Escola’s eye, they were making viral YouTube videos with Jeffery Self under the name VGL Gay Boys, which eventually became Logo’s homemade sketch series Jeffery & Cole Casserole. Among their many beloved bits was one where Escola donned a curly mop of a wig to play the legendary Bernadette, seen here in this sketch doling out some “advice” to her friend Jeffery. Oh, how far they’ve come—we love a full-circle moment!
