Wake Up Narcolepsy Presents 2026 Research Grant to Dr. Kiran Maski
Wake Up Narcolepsy (WUN) presented a research grant to Dr. Kiran Maski, a neurologist at Boston Children’s Hospital and associate professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School. Tammy Anderson, WUN Executive Director, presented Dr. Maski with the $20,000 grant at Boston Children’s, in Boston, MA on October 29th.
The grant will support Dr. Maski’s continuing research into Narcolepsy, with the intent of improving treatment outcomes, growing the field and expanding clinical care and advocacy. One incredible tool that resulted from Dr. Maski’s work is the Pediatric Hypersomnolence Survey (PHS), designed to improve early identification of Narcolepsy and Idiopathic Hypersomnia for children and adolescents ages 8-18.
“I’m deeply grateful to Wake Up Narcolepsy for their continued support of our research to improve care for children, adolescents, and young adults living with narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia,” said Dr. Maski. “Their funding has allowed us to develop better tools for identifying these conditions earlier, to create outcome measures that reflect what patients and families actually experience, and to bring attention to gaps in care that too often go unaddressed. It has also let us study the cognitive concerns that families raise with us in clinic again and again. Our goal is to do work that matters to the hypersomnia community and that makes a real difference in the lives of young people and their families.”
Since 2008, Wake Up Narcolepsy has raised vital funding for experts in the field like Dr. Maski, who are working towards better understanding this complex disorder. This ongoing commitment is integral to WUN’s mission and has allowed researchers to pursue additional projects and funding opportunities, leading to improvements and breakthroughs.
