Chesterfield Farm Scoresby Review

0 5

Whenever I don’t know where to take the kids, I go to Chesterfield Farm. It’s in Scoresby, close to the city. You don’t just look at animals here, you can feed them up close, meet the baby animals, and do a few farm activities. The kids run around and use up a lot of energy, and by the time we get home they fall straight asleep. It’s a place you can come back to again and again.

Feeding the Animals

There’s a good range of animals: lambs, calves, ponies, deer, parrots, emus, kangaroos, pigs, and a camel. You can feed most of them. One thing I learned: don’t hold the whole feed bag close to the animals, they’ll grab it. Put some feed into a small paper cup and feed from that. Outdoors, the animals are behind fences, and there’s a shed with an open area where kids can go in and touch the animals.

The Tractor Ride

You can walk around the farm or take the tractor, which costs extra. The ride goes around the property, and kids find it hard to say no to it.

The Nursery

The baby animal nursery is great for kids who love animals. This is where we patted the rabbits and alpacas at the end.

Bottle-Feeding the Calves

You can pay a bit extra to feed a calf with a bottle. My kid was too small to do it, so we only watched and patted the baby animals.

Our Schedule

We did a simple route and it took 2 to 3 hours.

  • 11:15 hand milking a cow
  • 11:30 cow milking show
  • 11:45 feeding sheep, kangaroos, deer and other animals
  • 12:30 tractor ride around the farm
  • 1:00 sheepdog herding show
  • 1:30 nursery, patting alpacas and rabbits

Show times change by day, so check the schedule on their website before you go. There’s also a shearing show and a cream separating demo at some sessions. Grab a map at the entrance.

Tips

  • Buy tickets online ahead of time. They check them at the gate.
  • Take a map when you go in.
  • Use a small paper cup for feeding so the animals don’t grab the bag.
  • There’s not much shade, so sunscreen is a must.

Tickets and Prices

Buy your tickets online before you go, and they check them at the gate. Adults are $22, kids 3 to 17 are $15, and under 3s are free. A family ticket (2 adults and 2 kids) is $66. The tractor ride is $6 per person for ages 3 and up. A bag of animal feed is $3. Some animal experiences cost extra.

Lunch Nearby

After the farm we went to Knox Westfield for lunch, and then an indoor playground to burn off whatever energy was left. If you’d rather have brunch close by, Birdie Cup Eatery is a 5 minute drive from the farm.

The National Steam Centre is just across Ferntree Gully Road, and it’s open on weekends. If you want an indoor playground nearby, our Peppy Planet Bayswater review is a good one to compare. Our VIC school holidays and term dates for 2026 page helps with planning.
