Nos. Bakehouse & Cafe Dutton Park Reviews
Our friends kept recommending this place so many times we finally gave in and went. It’s tucked on a street that isn’t exactly a hot strip, nothing around it screaming “popular brunch spot,” so the half hour wait for a table caught us off guard a bit. Small menu, but every single dish on it felt like someone actually thought about it rather than just filling space. We ended up ordering way too much between the group, which turned out to be the right call, because half the fun was everyone having a different opinion on the same dish.
Steamed Shokupan
First time eating steamed bread and I was blown away. Wanted another one in a flash. Steaming technique makes the bread hold an insane amount of moisture. Texture between toasted bread and a steamed bun. Paired with kaya sauce, mild sweetness, milky butter, soaked with a runny egg. Basically a Malaysian plus Japanese mixed breakfast. Simple but you can see the skill.
Prawn & Seaweed Crunch Patty
Bounce and flavour on this worth a lot of so-called fancy restaurants taking notes from. No fishy smell, no ginger taking over. Full mouth of fresh flavour. Sandwiched in their own bread, had two in a row and didn’t get sick of it.
Khao Soi Squid Ink Pasta
Squid ink pasta carrying a northern Thai curry sauce. Bold combination attempt. Scallop and prawn sweetness becomes the thing that ties it together. Feels a bit random on paper but honestly tasted good.
Japanese Sandwich
Ordered their Japanese sandwich. Toast very soft, very thick. Chicken was okay. Sauce on top too heavy. Take the sauce away and it’s just a plain, thick toast sandwich. Nothing bad, but nothing amazing either.
Dessert
Lots of choice, especially the Sesame and Matcha lines, cakes and drinks both. If you like those two flavours, you’d be happy here. Yuzu cheesecake is their signature and it’s good. We got the sesame Basque cheesecake, not too sweet, decent. Desserts generally lean sweet for Asian palates though.

What We Missed
Signature pudding sold out by the time we got there, went too late in the day. On Instagram they do a sakura season limited salmon rice and a strawberry sakura cake, missed it this time. Following them now for next time.
Overall
Comfortable environment. Sandwich and cake both decent. Sesame and matcha fans should try it. I personally loved it.
