ilo Bakehouse Wynnum Reviews
New bakery opened up in Wynnum recently, right across from the water, in that old spot that used to be Island View Cafe. We’d seen it all over social media the past few weeks, people queueing down the street for it, so figured it was worth checking out for ourselves. Went on a weekend morning. By the time we got there pastries were already thinning out, definitely tells you something about how popular this place has gotten in a short amount of time. Decor’s stylish, modern, warm tones, the kind of place that photographs well whether you’re trying to or not.
The Pastries
Got a croissant, pretty good, lamination was on point. One of us went close to closing time, bread wasn’t as good by then, a bit tired. Staff gave away some free bread before closing though, nice touch, let us try a couple of other flavours we hadn’t picked. Focaccia and the almond croissant both good. Bought a loaf of sourdough to take home, haven’t tried it yet.
Iced matcha latte and an iced latte, both just average. The matcha in particular was a bit sweet for us.
The Setting
This is the real selling point. Five minutes’ walk and you’re at ilo, ocean right there, water sparkling in the sun. Weekday mornings it’s quiet, mostly runners, dog walkers, people out for their morning exercise. Weekend morning was a different story, got there around 9am and pastries were already thinning out, by 10am even less to choose from.
Standing there with a coffee and a fresh pastry, looking out at the water, genuinely relaxing. Wynnum itself has that holiday feel to it, the corner cafe vibe reminded one of us of Jeju Island, good sunshine, good mood all round.

Overall
Service and atmosphere both really liked. Flavours themselves were middle of the road for some of us, might be partly down to going later in the day when the good stuff was gone. If you want the full pastry selection, go early, before 9am ideally. Either way, the location alone makes it worth the trip, grab something, cross the road, eat it by the water.
