Knoxfield brings the community spirit

In the first two weeks of opening, Infinite Care’s flagship aged care home in Knoxfield is celebrating its emergence as a central hub for the eastern Melbourne suburb.

There has been an average of six admissions a week to the 177-bed, five-level home. But the open-door philosophy of the home and the public-facing café has seen the residence fill a social void for the community too.

An adjoining park has made Café Eight a go-to destination for the local community, with mothers’ groups, families and residents contributing to the formation of an intergenerational place of social connectivity.

Chief executive officer of the aged care provider Luke Greive said the vision for Knoxfield was always to create a space where residents can remain connected to the community, but community engagement so far has exceeded all of Infinite Care’s internal projections.

“Seeing locals walk their dogs to our door, mothers’ groups coming together, families sharing a coffee, and children playing while our residents look on – that is exactly the one community spirit we aimed to build,” Mr Greive said.

In particular, the home’s commitment to a hotel-style service model has proven popular with families, who have praised the food and the visibly present management team, which includes the operations manager and general manager contributing to lunch services.

Small touches like the dedicated community dog bowl have also contributed to the positive sentiment surrounding the new home, while the daily interactions between local children and residents have enhanced wellbeing and social connectivity overall.

Infinite Care remains focused on ensuring Knoxfield maintains a high standard of care and community engagement, in the hopes it will prove that modern aged care can be a vibrant, welcoming and essential part of local neighbourhoods, the provider said.

As 2026 continues, Infinite Care intends to further establish itself in Victoria, with plans to open a new home in the inner-city Melbourne suburb of Prahran. It also has several acquisitions across the state in the pipeline.
