Eldering returns to SCCQ – The Ageing Agenda
Southern Cross Care Queensland has reappointed former chief executive officer Jason Eldering after his June departure.
Mr Eldering will return to the CEO role on 9 November.
The appointment follows a major board shake-up at the not-for-profit aged care provider after a special general meeting on 24 September. It resulted in the appointment of five new directors and the conclusion of the tenure of five incumbent directors.
Peter Maher was appointed chair. Since the meeting, Sally Fuller, Prem Nair and Dr Phillip Good have concluded their service as board members.
Mr Maher thanked and acknowledged the contribution of the departing members, saying SCCQ has “benefitted greatly from the commitment, leadership and stewardship of many dedicated directors over a long period of time.”
He said the board is focused on providing stability, strong governance and support to ensure the success of the organisation. The board also agreed to appoint an additional director – subject to regulatory approval.

“Southern Cross Care has a proud history, strong foundations and an important mission. Our responsibility as a board is to provide stability, support our people and ensure the organisation remains well positioned to continue serving the people and communities who place their trust in us,” said Mr Maher.
Mr Maher said Mr Eldering brings extensive aged care leadership experience, a deep understanding of the organisation and a strong commitment to its mission, people and communities.
“The board believes he is well placed to lead Southern Cross Care through its next chapter,” he said.
Mr Maher also thanked interim CEO Ken Freer for his leadership during the transition period.
“Ken has provided stability, guidance and support during an important period for the organisation.”
