Vasey RSL Care has entered an agreement with St John of God Health Care to acquire the St John of God Frankston Rehabilitation Hospital.
The not-for-profit specialist veterans aged care provider is planning to repurpose the site for use as an aged care home.
Hospital operations at the 60-bed site are expected to conclude on 23 October and handover is scheduled for 16 November.
Vasey RSL Care chief executive officer Janna Voloshin said they welcomed the opportunity to build on the site’s long history of care.
“The St John of God Frankston Rehabilitation Hospital site is well situated to support our plans to provide high-quality aged care services that respond to the changing needs of the local community, while continuing the strong tradition of compassionate, person-centred care associated with this site,” she said.
The hospital will continue to deliver rehabilitation services as it is gradually transitioned to Vasey RSL Care, and the St John of God Health Care team have commenced discussions with private health providers across the region to support continuity of rehabilitation services and minimise disruption.
St John of God Health Care group CEO Bryan Pyne said the decision followed careful consideration of changing health care needs across the region and the future role of the site in continuing to support the local community.
He said safe, high-quality patient care would remain the hospital’s priority until operations ceased and that patients and their families would be supported throughout the transition process.
“For more than two decades, Frankston Rehabilitation Hospital has been privileged to serve the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula communities,” said Mr Pyne.
“The hospital leaves a lasting legacy of care, compassion and dignity, shaped by generations of caregivers who have faithfully cared for those in need.”
