Gentle Sleep Support for Children Across One Home or Two

0 6

For Rosie White, the journey to becoming a sleep consultant began with her own experience of motherhood. After years of navigating broken nights with her daughter, while also balancing co-parenting and the challenges of living with fibromyalgia, Rosie discovered just how difficult it can be to find sleep advice that reflects the realities of family life. Those experiences inspired her to create Rested by Rosie, offering gentle, personalised sleep support designed to help parents feel understood, confident and free from judgement. With a particular passion for supporting children who move between two homes, she is committed to helping families find practical approaches that work for their unique circumstances. Here, Rosie talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about the story behind Rested by Rosie, the pros and cons of running her own business, and her hopes and dreams for the future.

The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?

Rested by Rosie was born from my own experience as an exhausted mum. My daughter didn’t sleep through the night until she was four, and during that time, I found myself overwhelmed by conflicting advice that never seemed to fit our family. As a co-parent, I quickly realised that many sleep resources assumed every child lived in one home with one consistent routine, and that simply wasn’t our reality.

Living with fibromyalgia also taught me just how much quality sleep affects every part of life. When you’re already managing chronic pain and fatigue, broken nights can feel overwhelming. It made me realise that families don’t just need sleep advice; they need understanding, reassurance and support that fits real life.

That’s why I became a sleep consultant: to offer gentle, personalised support that helps parents feel confident rather than judged, whatever their family looks like.

The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?

I started by completing my Level 3 Sleep Consultant certification while continuing to learn from my own experiences as a mum. From the very beginning, I knew I wanted Rested by Rosie to feel different.

Rather than focusing on rigid routines or quick fixes, I wanted to create a service centred around listening. Every child is different, every family is different, and sleep support should reflect that.

I began by supporting families one-to-one, building my social media community and creating free resources to educate and reassure exhausted parents. Watching families gain confidence has been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey.

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?

The biggest breakthrough was embracing my niche instead of trying to appeal to everyone.

There are many wonderful sleep consultants, but very few specialise in supporting children who move between two homes. Once I started openly talking about co-parenting, handover days and the unique challenges dual-household families face, parents began telling me they finally felt understood.

That reinforced something I’d believed from the start: families don’t need generic advice; they need support that reflects their reality.

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

Like many parents, I’m still figuring it out!

Running my own business allows me to be present for my daughter while building something I’m passionate about. Because I co-parent, I use the time she’s with her dad to focus on consultations, admin and content creation, and when she’s with me, she gets my full attention wherever possible.

It’s not always perfectly balanced, but I’ve learned that giving myself grace is just as important as being organised.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Starting a business while managing fibromyalgia has been one of my biggest challenges. There are days when my energy is limited, but becoming self-employed has allowed me to build a career that works with my health rather than against it.

I’ve also learned to embrace the challenges that come with co-parenting. Those experiences have shaped the way I support families and have become one of my greatest strengths as a consultant. Rather than seeing those experiences as setbacks, they’ve helped me build a business rooted in empathy and understanding.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The biggest advantage is flexibility. I can build a business around my family, work in a way that aligns with my values and support parents in a genuinely meaningful way.

The hardest part is wearing every hat! One minute I’m supporting a family through a sleep challenge; the next, I’m creating social media content, answering emails or learning about marketing. It can be overwhelming at times, but seeing the difference my support makes to families makes every challenge worthwhile.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

My goal is to continue growing Rested by Rosie into a trusted space where parents feel supported rather than judged.

I’d love to work more closely with professionals who support families, such as health visitors, family mediators and counsellors, to ensure parents can access holistic support during some of the biggest transitions in family life.

I’m also passionate about continuing to raise awareness of the unique sleep challenges faced by children living across two homes, helping more families realise they don’t have to navigate those challenges alone.

Alongside growing the business, I’m committed to continuing my professional development. I’m keen to expand my knowledge of sleep support for children with additional needs and SEND, as well as broadening my expertise to support older children and their families. The more I learn, the better I can tailor my support to meet the needs of every family I work with.
