The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has published new eLearning modules and resources to support aged care volunteers.
The Supporting Older People: Volunteer Learning Guide was informed by a consultation in 2025, in which stakeholders said they would like to see consistent, flexible learning to support volunteers, providers and volunteer managers.
It has three parts:
- information for providers and volunteer managers
- practical tools to help volunteer managers deliver training
- information for volunteers about the training and what they can expect.
Part one includes information on the regulatory framework and on who the training applies to, alongside information on registered provider obligations when it comes to training delivery.
Part two is a practical, user-friendly toolkit for volunteer managers and includes a step-by-step checklist to support the delivery of training on the five core topics:
- the Aged Care Code of Conduct
- reportable and serious incidents
- complaints and feedback
- awareness of elder abuse and advocacy pathways
- understanding diversity and inclusion.
The five core topics are discussed in detail in part one.
Part three is geared towards volunteers and provides information about the training they will receive and what they can expect.
